Govt Lower Primary School , Gowdenpalya

The school in Gowdenpalya was started only in June 2001, with the enrolment of 55 kids in Grade 1 and the appointment of one teacher. Sikshana adopted the school by the end of this academic year.

As of now the school has:

  • 145 children in five Grades - 1 to 5.
  • Two teachers appointed by the State to cover them.

What it needs:

  • A proper building to take at least 200 students in five grades with adequate facilities.
  • .

Ongoing Efforts from Sikshana:

We have been providing them with facilities such as floor mats, furniture for the class room, teaching aids etc., besides the motivational efforts which form the essential part of Sikshana. We have also provided the school with two teachers to supplement the existing staff.

Sikshana has taken up the issue of land for the school with the Government of Karnataka. Progress on this has been painfully slow, for the obvious reason that land is prohibitively expensive in this area. With the Department of Education taking a stand that the land must come from the Local Body’s resources and the latter allotting a low priority to this need, we can expect little progress in the days to come- unless there is a major shift in the mind sets or there is a political will to come up with a suitable legislation for allotment of land for public schools
